Have you ever heard of marble collecting? Back in the 1990s, almost every child loved marbles. My dad had a big collection when he was young. But hardly anyone enjoys collecting marbles now. Most people think it’s boring, but I don’t think so. I love collecting and playing with marbles.

Marbles are pretty cheap and usually cost 20 or 30 cents each. Some are rare and more expensive. I used to ask my dad for money to buy the rarer ones, and he wasn’t too happy about that. But now that I have a part-time job, I’ve started saving money. Every Saturday, before I go to my swimming practice, I like to stop by the toy store to see if they have any new marbles. I have so many marbles that I don’t know how many I have exactly. I think it must be over a thousand!

My little brother also likes playing with marbles. he isn’t as good as I am, but I like to let him win sometimes. He’s so happy when he wins marbles from me. Playing with marbles is so fun!

Using conjunctions to connect an event to a point in time.

To connect an action or an event to a point in time, you should use conjunctions of time.

+ We can use now that as a conjunction of time to say that something happens as a result of something else. In informal speaking we can leave out that.

Now (that) he has a bike, he rides his bike every morning.

+ We use before and after to talk about the order of events in the past or future.

She’ll pick you up before she comes here.

(Event 1) (Event 2)

After she comes here, she’ll pick you up.

(Event 1) (Event 2)

+ Before and after can come at the beginning or in the middle of a sentence.

Before she comes here, she’ll pick you up.

She’ll pick you up after she comes here.
