If the heat of Hanoi by day makes shopping there hard to bear, there is a solution: shopping at night! The Hanoi Weekend Night Market is located in the heart of the city and offers a feast of sights, smells and tastes of Vietnam without costing an arm and a leg*!

The market operates from Friday night to Sunday between the hours of 6 p.m and midnight. Shops and stalls stretch from Hàng Đào Street to Đồng Xuân Market, in the Old Quarter of the city. That's a length of around 3 km, so be sure to wear comfortable shoes! As this is the tourist district, visitors will find a variety of souvenirs, cheap clothes, local handicrafts and postcards. Like in many markets in Vietnam, you can sometimes bargain and get high quality items at a great price.

But that's not all. The Night Market is a great place to try some delicious street food as you stroll along. Try sausages on sticks, spring rolls or sweet potato chips: there's something to satisfy every taste! Ice cream rolls and ice lollies are recommended for those with a sweet tooth. You can also get your fill of culture on special occasions like the Mid-Autumn Festival, when live musical performances fill the air with traditional Vietnamese songs.

*cost an arm and a leg = be very expensive
