ECOTOURISM IN THE RAINFOREST OF CAMBODIA
The Cardamom Mountains of Cambodia is Southeast Asia's largest remaining rainforest. In the mountains, there is a variety of ecosystems such as jungles, waterfalls and swamps. Various rare, endangered animals and plants live in these ecosystems. The mountains are also home to many local tribes.
In the past, tourism, deforestation and hunting threatened the natural forests and the animals in them. This is now changing with the help of an organisation called Wild Life Alliance. The organisation has turned a local village, called Chi Phat, into a tourism community that protects the ecosystems and their animals. Through this new ecotourism, local people can now support themselves without harming the environment. Instead, they have become nature educators that teach tourists about their land. Some villagers work as nature guides while others provide sustainable accommodation and operate restaurants and various activities. Other locals work as rangers to protect the wildlife and limit where tourists can go.
Tourists can enjoy jungle hiking, mountain biking, traditional boat trips and camping while learning about nature and the local tribes who live in the rainforest. Ecotourism has helped develop the town of Chi Phát, which now has a school, a health clinic, clean water sources and a recycling programme.
With the success of the ecotourism project, the Cambodian government and project organisers hope more local people will get involved and develop ecotourism to more areas in the rainforest. In the end, ecotourism has three goals: to protect the environment, to help the local people, and to create awareness of the Cardamom Mountains as a place worth saving.

Welcome to Focus on Vietnam. Today, I am excited to tell you about my visit to Huế City – the historic capital city of Vietnam during the Nguyen Dynasty. There are so many places to see in Huế, the tour guide decided to take a motorbike tour instead of a walking tour in order to see as much as possible. On one side of the Huong River, also known as the Perfume River, there are many pagodas and tombs as well as a complex of Huế monuments, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. At the beginning of the tour, we went to the Imperial City to visit the Citadel where the Nguyen families live. In the central of the Citadel, there is a forbidden purple city, where only the Emperor and his family were allowed inside. Most of this area is ruined, except the Emperor’s Reading Room. I was amazed at the walls of the room that were covered with poems and decorations. Next, we rode down motorbike to Thien Mu Pagoda, one of the most famous pagodas in Vietnam. We didn’t stay too long because it was hot and crowded with many tourists. Finally, we stopped along the Huong River, where there were food stalls and wonderful shops. I wanted to stay longer in the shops but we have to return to a hotel. It was a great first day in Hue City.

Một bên sông Hương hay còn gọi là sông Hương có rất nhiều chùa chiền, lăng tẩm cũng như quần thể di tích Cố đô Huế đã được UNESCO công nhận là Di sản văn hóa thế giới. Mở đầu chuyến tham quan, chúng tôi đến Kinh thành để thăm kinh thành nơi sinh sống của các gia đình họ Nguyễn. Ở trung tâm Hoàng thành, có một cấm thành màu tím, nơi chỉ có Hoàng đế và gia đình của ông được phép vào bên trong. Hầu hết khu vực bị đổ nát, ngoại trừ phòng đọc sách của Hoàng đế. Tôi đã rất ngạc nhiên trước những bức tường của căn phòng được bao phủ bởi những bài thơ và trang trí. Tiếp theo, chúng tôi đi xe máy đến chùa Thiên Mụ, một trong những ngôi chùa nổi tiếng nhất ở Việt Nam. Chúng tôi không ở lại lâu vì trời nóng và đông khách du lịch. Cuối cùng, chúng tôi dừng lại dọc theo sông Hương, nơi có những quán ăn và cửa hàng tuyệt vời. Tôi muốn ở lại cửa hàng lâu hơn nhưng chúng tôi phải trở về khách sạn. Đó là một ngày đầu tiên tuyệt vời ở thành phố Huế.
