Tourists wanting to see historic Việt Nam should visit the Imperial Citadel of Thăng Long. Originally built in Lý Dynasty, it remained the royal palace of numerous Vietnamese dynasties until 1810. Remains of the Imperial City were discovered when a structure was torn down to allow workers to construct a new parliament building in 2008. They found archaeological remains that were taken to the National Museum. So far, only a small portion of Thăng Long has been excavated.
