Miss Green: Because English is the language of business. International companies communicate in English to make it easier to hold business meetings and trade.

MC: All those things that sound important. A lot of people don't have any interest in business. Why should they suck English?

Miss Green: Well, English is also the main language of education in many countries. If students want to study, learning English is necessary.

MC: I see. I appreciate you coming in today. Miss Green.

English Language Day

English Language Day is an annual event for English speakers and learner around the world. The United Nations held the first English Language Day on 23 April, 2013 because it is the birthday of the famous English writer William Shakespeare.

English Language Day started as a day to spread information about the history of the English language to English learner around the world. The United Nations also creates several Language Days besides English Language Day. Their goal was so celebrate multilingualism - the fact that people speak more then one language.

There is such a wide range of things to do on English Language Day that you surely find an activity that you will enjoy. Despite being a day to English language learners the events is not just a celebration for students. Adults can enjoy it, too. English authors do book readings educational organizations hold English lessons ans Shakespeare fans show “I’m versions of some of his most famous plays. There is something for everyone on English language Day, so why not experience the fun and the excitement for yourself?
